Restaurant Showcases Dayton History
Thursday, October 11, 2001
Dayton's first Fuddrucker's Restaurant which is located on Kingsridge Dr. behind the Dayton Mall opened last week. Thanks to Lynn Satow of Craig Communications in Akron, Andy Snow, Denny Neu and Russ Gilmore, patrons can see a little bit of our neighborhood history when they visit "Flashback Alley", a dining room in the back of the restaurant. The decor consists of old photographs with displays featuring the Oregon District, St. Anne's Hill and McPherson Town, as well as other historical Dayton photos.
Andy donated his talent, time and services to reproduce the photographs and slides chosen by Lynn Satow. Thanks to his generosity, the project raised $500 for our neighborhood, which the board of trustees has voted to earmark for the preservation and electronic conversion of our neighborhood archives.
A newly formed committee has already begun the planning stages to pursue additional funds through grants for this archive preservation project. The goal of this project is to properly document and preserve our OHDS files, which are filled with marvelous before and after photographs, newspaper and magazine articles and a variety of mementos showing the chronological history of the revitalization of our community, so they can be shared and made available to everyone, both now, and for generations to come.
Thanks to Janet Neu for contributing this article. |
