OHDS History Project Wins Arts Grant
Wednesday, May 29, 2002
The OHDS was recently awarded a grant from the Montgomery County Arts and Culture District Special Projects Program. This program, administered by CultureWorks, awards funds to local non-profit arts and community groups for the development of artistic and cultural projects. The OHDS project is a video documentary, which will chronicle the District's history from the mid 1800's to the present day, with primary emphasis on the renewal period of the 1970s. The OHDS's project competed against 10 other applicants from organizations including the Dayton Cultural Center, Miami Valley Cooperative Gallery, Dayton Visual Arts Center, Downtown Dayton Partnership, MV Arts Foundation, Riverbend Arts Council, and the Kettering Rosewood Gallery. The applications were evaluated by a panel of judges comprised of established visual artists from the Dayton area. The resulting scores ranged from the highest score of 33 to the lowest of 19. The OHDS project was awarded a score of 30.8 which translated to a 5th place rank out of 11. The project was awarded $5,930.
The project's producers are looking for input from current and former residents, and anyone else who has information or stories of the District's history. If you would like to help or know of anyone who may have input, please contact John Bognar via email, or at 223-6636. |
